It can quickly get expensive to stock up on flavored drinks so it’s nice when you can make your own. Here’s a recipe for homemade coffee liquor. Use the highest quality coffee you can find.
The blend of brown and regular sugars adds a caramel undertone to the drink and the vanilla bean helps to mellow all the flavors.
2 shots espresso, cooled
1 1/4 cups water
1 cup sugar
1 cup light brown sugar, lightly packed
1 1/8 cups vodka
1/2 vanilla bean
Bring the water and sugars to a boil for 1 minute in a small saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat and cool.
Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape the seeds into a jar. Add the pod and all other ingredients.
Cap and store in a cool, dry place for 2-3 weeks.
Strain, remove the beans and then re-bottle.
