Sesame Citrus Asian Slaw

This salad is a quick side. It’s the perfect accompaniment for Spicy Tofu Buns. The sauce can be substituted with a pre-made Ponzu sauce plus the addition of the sesame oil and ginger. Most Ponzu sauces contain fish flakes so be sure to check if you need one that’s vegetarian-friendly.


1/3 lb cabbage, sliced thinly
2 medium carrots, peeled into ribbons with a vegetable peeler
3 scallions, sliced at an angle
1 Tbsp sesame seeds

2 Tbsp soy sauce
1 Tbsp orange juice
1/2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp mirin
1 tsp rice wine vinegar
1 tsp water
1/2 tsp grated ginger
1/2 tsp toasted sesame oil
Pinch crushed red peppers

Toast sesame seeds in a dry pan until just beginning to brown. Remove from pan. Toss with salad vegetables.

Combine sauce ingredients. Dress salad.
